An original model from wax is created because this material retains its softness. Then a mold also called a shell is made of the original wax sculpture by one of the most famous bronze foundries in Switzerland. Finest bronze quality is then poured carefully into the hot shell because otherwise the temperature difference would shatter it. After cooling down the shell is hammered away, releasing the rough casting. The bronze sculpture is then carefully reworked to perfection.
Kunstgiesserei “Art-Foundry” Cornel Hutter: “When I met JP for the first time, I thought to myself “this guy is somewhat loony with all his skulls!” Today, I am in love with them. It was my first encounter dealing with these kind of art objects, and when JP asked me if I would cast his skulls in bronze, I took it as a huge challenge upon me. Everyone knows JP’s attitude. And everyone knows that he is willing to embark on black ice when something goes wrong. It cannot simply be perfect, no, it must be more perfect than perfect. Otherwise the sculpture gets melted down again. JP is demanding yet supports me and my passion for ‘Kunstgiesserei’ and pushes me and my team to create outstanding work. To collaborate with him is a great joy and challenge.” – Cornel Hutter
